15 Reasons Why I Bike to Work

Riding my bike is probably my favorite thing to do.

Here are some reasons why:

  1. Exercise doesn’t feel like exercise anymore.
  2. I look forward to going to work (or at least the ride there).
  3. I don’t have to re-fill my gas tank every week.
  4. I save money on gas, car maintenance, and other costs associated with driving.
  5. I get great cardio without having to run. (I hate running.)
  6. There are social benefits to riding my bike, and the opposite effect occurs when I’m driving in traffic.
  7. I get to take in my city’s beauty through its back roads, instead of taking the same crowded street every single day.
  8. I get a moment with nature every morning and afternoon. (Smelling the flowers, feeling the wind… hugging the trees…all that good stuff.)
  9. It’s fun! (To me, at least.)
  10. Bicycling is the fastest non-motorized form of transportation (aside from riding a horse, which is not quite as practical.)
  11. I get more respect from car drivers on my bicycle than I ever did in my car. Generally I always have the right of way (even if I don’t).
  12. Riding my bike is so much better for the environment.
  13. I don’t need to worry about parking, nor do I have to pay to do so.
  14. It’s much safer to operate.
  15. My bike is 100x easier, cheaper, and more fun to maintain than my car is.
